Can I sue a man who my soon to be ex wife cheated with?

The Green Eyed Papi asked:

The guy and my soon to be ex wife were dating for 4 months. He was one of her clients so he has money. Well, he dumped her because he didn’t want to leave his kids and his wife. My soon to be ex wife got so upset and called his wife and told her everything that happened. Now she’s without anyone. Can I sue the guy for damages to the marriage?

  1. Irish Amber Said,

Most states won’t allow you to anymore, they recognize that your wife is the one who damaged the marriage, not him.

  2. wizjp Said,

    uh…in a word…no.

  3. umakemewannalalala Said,

i dont think u can but bring it up in court and get on the belongings hahaha

  4. Can I get you a McTissue? Said,

No. Your wife was just as much a willing participant. She commited adultery.

  5. michelob86 Said,

No. Besides, it sounds like he did you a favor.

  6. Raybay Said,

It takes two to tango duuuuuuuude. I doubt you have a case.

  7. Julie W Said,

You don’t think your wife had anything to do with the breakup of your marriage?

  8. emmarrrr Said,

Because they were clients, possibly. But your ex-wife cheated too, so not for damage to relationship.

I doubt very much that you actually have a case.

  9. betty boop Said,

You can take him to court, but will you get anything? Probably not!

  10. David S Said,

There used to be an old statute called something like “alienation of affection.” I don’t think it exists any longer. You may want to ask an attorney, but don’t get your hopes up.

  11. Russell L Said,

    I highly, highly doubt it.

Infidelity isn’t a crime, he didn’t do anything that was against the law.

Marriage isn’t this entity that can be damaged and allow for others to expect people to provide monetary compensation for it.

Otherwise, divorcing couples would be suing people for “Marital Damage” all the time.

  12. Laurie B Said,

With the right lawyer. Personal damages, maybe even compensation for loosing out on having the laundry done the dishes and the cooking. How much will it cost you for those services to be hired out? A friend of mine was sued and had to pay for a man not being able to perform sexually with his wife due to his actions.

  13. PattyAnn Said,

What about your wife’s part in this?
You absolutely cannot sue him for damaging your marriage, which was damaged when she decided, as a married woman, to date a married man. The fact that he has money has nothing to do with you.

  14. thunder2sys Said,

first of all you can’t sue for a thing. This didn’t happen to you and you suffered no damages. Your ex-wife can’t sue for anything either, suing for a broken heart is not permissible in court…/

  15. Susie D Said,

The “other man” didn’t have a contract to “be faithful only unto you for as long as you both shall live”…..you’re wife had that contract with you.

You’re wife broke your marriage contract, not the other guy. The only person who has anything against him is his own wife.

If you want a villain - then it’s your wife. Sorry, but she’s the only one who strayed from your marriage. Even if the other guy knew she was married - he didn’t make you any promises not to sleep with your wife, but your wife made a promise not to sleep with other men.
